After all, this is a car that Car and Driver loved-even Matt Farah recently reviewed the final iteration of the Mk7 GTI and came away still impressed after all these years. I decided to press on, convinced that the problem must be with me. Perhaps the real problem was the tinny Fender sound system, with its mid-range screeching in my ear despite muted highs and lows. Or maybe it was the overly powerful brake bite, which combines with the dual-clutch gearbox attempting to predict the next shift and makes the braking pressure highly variable. ![]() Something about the rattle-can suspension just ruined me, the springs and shocks so taut that the front-end weight bias of the car lurches at the smallest of road imperfections. ![]()
